Stopping At Perhentian

The weekend after Chinese New Year found the Arches, Ira, Saad and myself on a 10-hour overnight bus trip to Perhentian Island, off the North-east coast of Malaysia. Map provided above for the geographically challenged...and yes free publicity for Tuna Bay Resorts - where the bunch of us stayed.

We arrive at Kuala Besut in the wee hours and tuck into an oh-so-scrumptious Malaysian breakfast

It was an hour-long speedboat ride to the islands as the sun rose over the South China Sea
Disembarking at the little jetty
Walking across the pristine beach to our chalets....

... as the Sun finally decides to stop scrawling its orange and purple crayons across the canvas of the sky

Our chalets faced the clear blue sea where the fish were so tame they came up to you and expected you to feed them little scraps of bread

We did the usual beach-y stuff like...

...snorkel,

contemplate the blue yonder,

consider a serious career in beach-bumming

and provide worthy pictorial moments

There was also a certain incident involving me having a severe stomach reaction and a boat ride across the bay in the pitch dark at 2 a.m. to the little local hospital on the nearest island where being a Malaysian, I paid RM$1 for the drugs and consultancy fees. But not before Ira had yelled at the "nurses" (please it is an island in the middle of nowhere - you think there would be doctors?) that treating her friend was more important than putting on their tudungs!

On the journey back, there was a near-collision with another boat (it was pitch dark after all) but the postcard pictures we got the next day sort of/almost made up for it.
